Our family has a new website! No more freebie blogging, we now have HeylFamily.com! Woohoo! I’m in the process of transferring this whole blog over to the new one, and if you see some weird things on the new one (like the captions for the pictures) just ignore them, I’m trying to figure out how to change them. I’m working on some pretty cool features for the blog as well, so be sure to bookmark us or add us to your RSS feed and keep up

Slip N Slide Fun! May 25, 2008
While in Houma yesterday, Wade decided to pick up a Slip N Slide for Hayden and of course, today, he had to show him how to do it! (Way too funny!! LOL) Hayden never quite did it the right way, he preferred to be either pulled down the slide or to just run back and forth in the sprinkler part, but he had a blast. All day, he’s been pulling off his diaper and trying to put his bathing suit back on saying, “Slide, daddy. That was fun!” Here are a few pictures from earlier this afternoon:
And this is what’s growing in that way overgrown patch of green next to the slide. Its watermelons, lima beans and green beans. We should have full grown watermelons soon and we’ve already started eating the green beans, we have tons of them. I had enough to make a big pot of smothered green beans today and they were SO GOOD!!

You can find a few more slide pictures here:

He’ll kill me for this one day … May 25, 2008
But how can I not take pictures of Hayden in all his glory?? lol
Yesterday morning, Wade and I were finishing up our patio, so we kept Hayden busy by giving him a popsicle, which of course, he made a HUGE mess with. We already had the hose on and his little pool set up, so I just took off his diaper and told him to go play in the hose. I grabbed the camera b/c he was just so happy to be able to play in the hose. Of course, I had to use a black bar to protect the innocent
lol
He was a bit too proud! lol
My camera lens was foggy from walking outside in the heat

That mischevious look + water hose + mommy’s camera = time to stop taking pictures!
Baby Stuff May 24, 2008
I remember doing a post like this when I was pregnant with Hayden, just some cool baby stuff that I’d love to have, except this time around, this is stuff I really want and/or need and eventually plan to get
(PS. My birthday is coming up! LOL)
First, the bedding that I want to get for the nursery is from Pottery Barn Kids. I know that PB can run on the expensive side, but when you add up the individual bedding pieces, its no more than a regular bedding set runs and you can pick and choose what you want. I’ll probably wind up registering at PB for the bedding, unless its decided that I won’t have a shower. Its called Pique and I’m not decided on the color I want to do yet. Originally, I wanted very, very pale, almost white colors of yellow, blue and green (I want the whole nursery to be almost white, all very pale colors), so I was going to go with the pale green trim, but I think if its a girl, I want to get the pink trim. You can have the bedding monogrammed, too, which I think is really cute. And here is a picture of the Pique Nursery from PB’s site, with the dark furniture, which is what we’ll have (we’re using
Hayden’s nursery furniture). I’ll only need to get the coverlet, bedskirt and probably the bumper. The sheets are just plain white sheets, so I can get that anywhere for much less than PB would charge. Maybe one of the little pillows, too, to sit on the glider.
Another thing that I just discovered that I just HAVE to have, is this Tracy Joy camera bag that doubles as a diaper bag. You know I’ll just HAVE to have my camera with me at all times! I’m not decided on what print I’d want it in, if we have a girl, definitely
something pink and girly, but if we have a boy, it doesn’t really matter. She has way too many to choose from! The bag is padded to protect your camera and has side pockets that will fit my flash and extra lens as well as diapers, bottles, toys, etc. Very, very cool!
I’ve also been looking into the various types of carriers you can buy b/c I plan to wear the baby a lot. I just
know that with an active 3 year old running around and having to do my photography, I’ll need to have the baby close to me. There are 2 types that I’m looking to get, the first is a sling and will be great when the baby is newborn, although you can use it up to toddler-age as well. I’ve been reading about the different slings and I came across HotSlings, which seem easy to use. Here is one of the ones I like, its reversible, so the other side is just solid black. They are great to nurse in as well!
The other carrier I’ve been looking into is a soft asian style carrier, but there are SO many different kinds, I don’t know how I’ll ever decide! I had one for Hayden that I made myself, and I didn’t start using it until we were in VA and I loved it. I carried his heavy 27 pound butt around the zoo for about 2 hours without any problems! There are too many sites to list that have them, but I think I’m going to go with a Mei Tai.
Ok, we’re about to head out to Houma to do some house shopping!
Hayden at 2 1/2 years (31 months) May 23, 2008
Its so amazing how much Hayden knows and can do at this point. His vocabulary is pretty much unlimited, he learns tons of new words every day. He knows most of his colors and gets them right 75% of the time (I think most of the time, he’s being silly when he gets them wrong). He also knows a lot of shapes (circle, square, diamond, triangle, star, heart). We’re still working on letters and numbers, he always insists on counting by 3’s, its so weird lol. He never wants to start with “1,” always with “3″ and says “3, 6, 9, 12.” We never taught him that, its just how he counts lol. And whenever he sees a word or letters on something he says “L-M-N-O-P”. He still pronounces his name “Had-nah,” and says a few other things incorrectly, but for the most part, its fairly easy to understand him. He’s also very polite, most of the time. He always says “Bless You” when he hears someone sneeze and frequently says “Please” and “Thank you.” He’s got his moments, of course, when he’s incredibly “terrible two,” but its not too bad (I say that now, b/c today is a good day, but ask me again on a bad day!)
As far as naps and sleep, that’s still a battle. This past week, I’ve pretty much just let the naps go. I’m tired of fighting with him for 2 hours to take a nap, so that when he finally sleeps, he wakes up late and then stays up late. Its almost better for Wade and I to let him skip it and just get him to bed early. He gets a little out of hand toward the end of the day, but I think its been worth it, so far. He does definitely still need that nap, but for now, I’m not pushing it. He also sleeps with us every night, with no end in sight. Wade and I enjoy it, to a certain extent, but there are bad nights when he’s itchy and really restless, and none of us get sleep. Its really nice to wake up to his sweetness, though, b/c he loves to hug and snuggle in the morning.
He finally figured out how to open doors about 2 months ago, so we’ve had to put chains on the outside doors. He’s “escaped” a couple of times and has gone outside by himself, but we caught him before he got down the driveway, so the chains were necessary.
His favorite TV show right now is Wow Wow Wubzy, he also likes Little Bill and most of the other shows on Noggin. For movies, he almost always chooses Lilo and Stitch, he also likes the show that comes on Disney. He got his first “Build a Bear” a few weeks ago, a dog that he weirdly named “Duke.” His favorite activity is his cut and paste book and he still loves his Little People. He is always asking us to “pway with me!” and to “Go Hadnah’s woom!”
Snapshots from May May 23, 2008
I still haven’t been very good about taking pictures lately and My Picture folder was so unorganized that I never felt like doing anything with the shots I did take, but I finally sat down and organized things, so here are a few snapshots from May.
This is Hayden and Ethan at the beginning of May, playing together at my mom’s house. Hayden is sweet to him, for the most part, but has his moments. He doesn’t like to share toys with Ethan and can sometimes forget that he’s little and gets a little rough, but he loves him!
I bought Ethan some BabyLegs from Target. They are supposed to keep babys’ legs warm and knees from getting scraped while crawling. Everyone thinks they look like leg warmers and makes fun of them
I think they are cute!
Then, a few days ago, Hayden and I finally found a snowball stand in Morgan City, yay! Hayden had a yellow, ice cream flavored snow ball and he really enjoyed it!
Then, Wednesday night, after I was finished cleaning and organizing my office, Hayden and daddy had some fun rolling around on the floor, doing flippies, playing airplane and dancing!
Here’s Hayden saying “I Super-da-Man!”
Hayden doing “fwippies” – this is why I was thinking of finding a tumbling class for him
Here’s Hayden running from daddy …

And here are some of Hayden’s groovy dance moves! You really need to see a video to get the full affect, I wish I had a way to post one!
And finally, here are some attempts at getting Hayden to take some cute pictures with us, as you can see, its pretty difficult, he’s very silly!

Kicking away! May 16, 2008
For a couple of weeks now I’ve had that “was that a kick or just a bubble?” feeling. But it wasn’t until yesterday that I felt a definite kick, several of them actually! And right now, I’m on my laptop listening to a Podcast and the baby is kicking away! I’m not sure if its b/c he/she likes it or maybe not! lol Its such a weird feeling and I thought it would just feel natural, that I would be used to it b/c of Hayden, but nope!
